Cleversafe to Discuss Big Data Storage and Cloud Archiving at SNW Fall 2011

Presenting on the Benefits of Managing Big Data with Object-Based Storage and Best Practices for the Long Term Preservation of Data with Cloud Archiving

CHICAGO, October 5, 2011— Storage industry visionary and Cleversafe CEO and president Chris Gladwin, along with Chad Thibodeau, director of Product Management & Alliances for Cleversafe and co-chair of the Cloud Archive and Preservation Special Interest Group (SIG) will present at SNW Fall 2011, the world’s largest conference focused on managing today’s information infrastructure. Both gentlemen will present sessions that leap beyond traditional solutions to effectively scale and store the massive amounts of data being generated in today’s enterprise environments.

Chris Gladwin, CEO and president of Cleversafe Inc., will present a customer case study on the “Journey to a Picture Perfect Data Storage System” on Monday, October 10. Gladwin’s presentation, part of the “Data Management: Object-Based Storage” track will focus on how enterprises can manage and address the storage industry’s growing Big Data scalability issue through object-based storage methods. Cleversafe’s object-based storage platform leverages Information Dispersal Algorithms (IDAs) as a forward error correction technique to slice data into unrecognizable pieces and disperse them across multiple servers to provide customers with a cost-effective way to safely secure massive amounts of data. Gladwin’s presentation will include requirements to consider when scaling to petabytes, and why object storage and IDAs make sense for large unstructured repositories as successor to RAID.

“The world’s information is doubling every two years. It’s being fueled by the use of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets and the massive amounts of unstructured data being created as a result such as video and audio files, images and text-based content,” said Chris Gladwin, CEO and president of Cleversafe. “Today’s businesses have reached a critical turning point in their ability to scale and store data. To effectively address the need to store Big Data, companies need to look beyond traditional solutions that can scale to the petabyte level and beyond,” said Gladwin. “Dispersed Storage with an object interface offers limitless scalability, maintains 100% data integrity and meets all security requirements. Until recently, this technology was far ahead of its time, but now the need for this type of solution has never been greater.”

Chad Thibodeau, director of Product Management & Alliances for Cleversafe and co-chair of the Cloud Archive and Preservation Special Interest Group (SIG) will be presenting a Tutorial for “Cloud Archive and Long Term Preservation Challenges and Best Practices” on Monday, October 10. Thibodeau’s session, part of the “Data Center Consolidation” track, will show attendees how to successfully utilize the Cloud for archiving and long-term data preservation. Thibodeau will cover the challenges that exist in archiving data within the Cloud, how to migrate from one Cloud provider to another, and how to ensure data integrity is maintained within the Cloud throughout the life of the archive.

Chris Gladwin’s 45 minute panel will take place Monday, Oct.10, 2011, at 2:50pm ET.

Chad Thibodeau’s SNIA Tutorial will take place Monday, Oct. 10, 2011 at 2:50 p.m. ET
