Cleversafe Adds VP of Product Management and Strategic Alliances

Storage Veteran Russ Kennedy Joins Dispersed Storage Team

CHICAGO—September 25, 2007—Cleversafe, Inc., developer of the world’s first Dispersed Storage™ software, today announced that storage industry veteran, Russ Kennedy, has joined Cleversafe as vice president of Product Management and Strategic Alliances. In this role, Kennedy will head the company’s product management and product marketing efforts, and will establish key technical and go-to-market alliances.

Kennedy brings more than twenty years of storage experience to his new position at Cleversafe. Most recently, he was senior director for Product Marketing and Strategy at Pillar Data Systems, a San Jose-based storage solutions provider. Previously, Kennedy was director of Software Product Management for StorageTek’s Information Lifecycle Management Solutions group, before StorageTek was purchased by Sun Microsystems in 2005.

“We are bringing Russ on board at a critical juncture in the company’s history, as we are preparing to launch our first commercial product and drive the company to the next level, from innovative start-up to storage market leader,” says Jon Zakin, CEO of Cleversafe. “There is a lot we have planned in the next year, and Russ’s track record of successful work with high-growth innovative storage companies will be invaluable to us.”

Current approaches to storage backup and archiving rely on multiple copies, replication and synchronization technologies, which compromise security, add complexity and increase costs. Cleversafe’s Dispersed Storage software divides data into “slices” using mathematical algorithms and disperses them, via secure Internet connections, to multiple storage locations. An individual slice contains too little information to be useful on its own, but any majority of the slices can be used to perfectly recreate all the original data.

“I think Cleversafe has a very innovative and elegant approach, which will help to solve many of the serious challenges in data storage today and in the future,” says Russ Kennedy. “The market for a more secure, more cost effective storage solution is enormous, and I have been very impressed with the potential of the Cleversafe technology and the company’s vision.”

Kennedy has a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Colorado State University and an MBA from the University of Colorado, Denver.

About Cleversafe
Cleversafe, Inc. is the developer of Cleversafe Dispersed Storage software, which uses Information Dispersal Algorithms (IDAs) to separate data into unrecognizable Data Slices and distribute them, via secure Internet connections, to multiple storage locations on a dispersed storage grid. With dispersed storage, transmission and storage of data is inherently private and secure. No single entire copy of the data is in one location, and only some of the slices need to be available in order to perfectly retrieve the data. Data on the grid remains private and secure in the face of natural catastrophes, or failures of hardware, connection, facility or IT management. Moreover, the individual data slices do not carry enough information for an unauthorized viewer to determine the original content. For more information, please go to www.cleversafe.com.
