Slicestor
Dispersed Data Storage Overview
dsNet Slicestors are dispersed data storage servers on a network which can be geographically dispersed or centrally located, depending on your needs.
Increased reliability through information dispersal
Here are the heavy numbers: Using a base of 3TB per Slicestor, a 30 TB usable storage with 16 wide ( total number of nodes ) /10 threshold ( minimum number of nodes to reassemble data ) IDA configuration can serve more than 99.99999999999999% of calculated reliability. So boiling it down— nothing can be more reliable.
This configuration requires only 60% storage and 60% bandwidth overhead—compared to a traditional 300% storage and 200% bandwidth overhead using those outdated mirror or RAID storage schemes.
Scalability in dispersed data storage capacity.
Unlimited Slicestors are allowed in a dsNet. That means massive scalability—you can just add capacity based on your company's storage requirements. Best of all, you can scale and grow to unlimited number of TB. Most people start with 8/4 or 16/10 vault setup though meaning 12 TB - 30 TB of storage per vault.
Flexible locations.
Our Slicestors can be deployed in a single rack or geographically distributed around the world. This increased flexibility through information dispersal allows you to address your company’s physical constraints.
Unparalleled security.
In traditional storage systems, you have to trade reliability for security. For each additional copy there is one additional attack vector where your data could be stolen, lost or otherwise compromised. With information dispersal, the more slices you produce the more secure and reliable the system becomes; each slice ends up representing a smaller and smaller fraction of the original data. In addition, since IDA’s require a threshold number of slices to be useful, a hacker has to compromise not one, but many independent servers to have a chance at getting useful data, assuming he or she can also break the AES encryption after recomposing the slices.
