Reliability Calculator

Reliability Calculator

Download this handy application to custom design your own dsNet system configuration. Set key parameters like width, threshold and number of locations. Then see how your organization can benefit from a more efficient, cost-effective solution. One that eliminates redundancies, increases security, reduces risk and rewards your insight for choosing a better way.

Easily Configurable

The possibilities to fine tune your Cleversafe experience and the security of your data are endless. So, you can scale the dsNet to your needs. Or grow it as your enterprise grows. All without the infrastructure and cost associated with the old way of data storage and backup.

But what are the variables?

Sure, dsNet systems are easier to configure—you just need to know the lingo.

Width

The width is the number of Slicestor appliances of the dsNet system.

Threshold

The minimum number of Slicestor appliances required for reading a datasource from the Cleversafe dsNet system.

Number of Sites

The number of sites is exactly that—the number of sites or locations you have Slicestor appliances. The reliability of the dsNet system is affected by how many sites you have Slicestor appiances in.

If you had all your Slicestor appliances in a single rack in one site, obviously the dsNet system would not be as reliable as if you had each Slicestor appliance in a separate site. Why? If there was an outage at the one site, you wouldn't have the threshold number of Slicestor appliances to retrieve your data.

Here’s a rule of thumb: the more locations you can store your data, the more reliable the dsNet system becomes.

Expansion Factor

This refers to the amount of data increase from the original data size after it runs through an Information Dispersal Algorithm (IDA). Expressed as a multiplier of the original data, it's calculated by  the sum of all the slices that are dispersed for the original data, divided by the size of the original data.

Configuring a dsNet system

By selecting a Width, Threshold and the number of sites, you will see the reliability and data expansion factor.  Play around with the calculator yourself to see how you may configure your own dsNet system.
